Two Words Every Dreamer Needs in Their Vocabulary
MTYL Memo #19: Favorite words to fuel your courage and stick-with-it-ness
It’s wild how much motivation can be packed into a single word. Here are two of my favorites—and their definitions—for self-reliant dreamers and builders.
Intrepid:
“Characterized by resolute fearlessness, fortitude, and endurance.” (Merriam-Webster)
“Fearless with an adventurous streak.” (Word Hippo)
Afraid of doing something? Frame it as an adventure, yourself as a brave explorer, and summon some of that “fearlessness, fortitude, and endurance.”
Resilient:
Capable of withstanding shock without permanent deformation or rupture” and “tending to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change. (Merriam-Webster)
I’d put great emphasis on the word “permanent” in the above definition. Shock, misfortune, and change are givens, and being resilient doesn’t mean we can't be temporarily fazed. But permanently? No way.
Whether or not you currently use these words to describe yourself, the coolest thing is that you can use them aspirationally and progressively as you dream and build. I know I do, and would love your company.
Have a great day!

I’ve just stumbled across your publication and I love your bite-sized daily doses of reminders of encouragement. I really need this now more than ever. I’ve subscribed and I’m looking forward to parusing past posts and receiving new ones!
By the way, I feel like I’m really resilient - I’ve been through a thing or two and I’m still standing! But intrepid is something I aspire to.
I love words that transmit! Totally resonate with both of these. One of my favs is audacity. And I have another one that is going to be part of a post next week. Can't wait to share it with you.
