The lucky ones discover the actual problem
If you want financial clarity, pick forecasting and organization > budgeting "better"
The lucky ones are the ones who figure out what the actual problem is, since—it turns out—it’s much easier to solve a problem you can articulate. And it’s much easier to articulate, then solve, a problem when you simplify, simplify, simplify.
Case in point: It’s common for people to think they have an “income problem” or a “spending problem,” when they have an organization problem. They think they need to save more, when really, they need to stop saving money that they need in their present life. They think they need to budget better, when really, they need to do more forecasting.
To do any of those things, they need to simplify.
Related to this: I recently finished up a 3-month engagement with my dream client. She was smart, motivated, ready to talk openly about her spending. And she understood that the kind of money makeover we were doing together wasn’t really about money. It was a decluttering, spring-cleaning-esque organization project—in service of the life she wants to be living.
She wants to be confident with her money, finally making actual and sustainable progress toward getting out of debt, and making the life she wants to be financially possible. And she’s super well on her way.
P.S. If you're like my dream client and looking for personalized support, working with people 1:1 is one of my favorite things. Just reply to let me know you’re interested.
