I love Travels with Charley! Anything you particularly like about it? I loved how real he was—didn't force anything on that trip, admitted feeling homesick, etc. Disclaimer: E of E is so...messy and complicated and dark and hard and beautiful. It has truly the worst character you've ever met, and then a couple of the best.
I'm going to add TWoOD to my list to read! "Mellow pace" sounds appealing. I gave a disclaimer in another comment re EoE that there's a lot in it that might turn some people off, but all of us adults get to be the bosses of our reading choices ;-)
Adding E of E to my reading list! Have you read Travels With Charley? It’s one of my faves!

I loved the authenticity and simplicity of the text and what a treat to be inside the mind of such an exceptional artist.
Gorgeously put. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve never read East of Eden, but really enjoyed the mellow pace of The Winter of Our Discontent. I’ll have to give EoE a go.

Loving this energy on a Friday but still a little bummed I didn't come up with the Pigasus first...
Thanks Rick! For the compliment, and the laugh. Knowing this fun fact about Steinbeck bumped him up like 7 notches in my estimation
