A high school buddy of mine became an underwater welder so that he could earn full time wages working part time hours (at least back then), in order to free up his time to be able to go surfing as often as possible. Pretty dang cool.
That is! I found myself shaking my head throughout the day thinking about this: underwater WELDER?! What a random profession I for one didn't really think about existing (although now I do, it makes sense it would be a thing), and an intentional choice made by your buddy.
Gah! I love this article so much! And reinforces what I've been feeling called to teach my older teens and young adult kids: just do what you love. The coolest part is all the ways we get to moetize our passions these days!
Thanks so much! As someone who's done a lot of jobs because they felt safe or responsible, I echo this. Even if a person has to temporarily do work they don't love, I see it as very high priority for independent dreamer types to create work you love. And heck yeah! Never been a better time to do it.
👀 words from one of my famous comedian AND they're hitting home. I'm starting a new job hunt and a cool job I actually enjoy sounds like the ideal scenario...
Thanks for sharing this, Rick. So glad it hit home. I'm pretty sure I know your ideal cool job (maybe you're doing it already with your humor + comedy??) Wishing you all the good things in your job hunt!
Loved this, Emily.
"Living meaningfully, and willing to risk for it." Such a hard thing to do for all of us.
Thanks a lot, Lance. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for the candor. It's one of the hardest and most exquisitely wonderful things I've done/try to do!
