Intentionally Creating What You Actually Want? Worth It.
MTYL Memo #23: Less following. Less waiting. More building your dream—your way.
In a digital marketing, advice-saturated world, experts and influencers holler advice like: “Be on such-and-such platform. Post X times a day. Use trending audio. Dance. Prime the algorithm. Go to every networking event.”
The message can feel like: “Do it my way, and eventually you can do things your way.”
Meanwhile, a part of your soul shudders at tactics that you—plain and simple—do not want to do. Not because you’re playing small or being lazy.
There are just some games your soul simply does not want to play.
It’s as if your soul knows that the business you would build their way wouldn’t suit you; and that no amount of external success can make up for soul-level dissatisfaction. We’ve all seen wildly “successful” people who seem miserable in the “dream life” they’ve unintentionally created.
As I’ve worked on various businesses over the years, with increasing focus, I’ve had dreams in the back of my head for what I actually wanted to be building.
Even as I tried to be intentional, I kept following the tactics of influencers and coaches, and waited for a certain level of “success” to build the business I wanted to build.
I’m not doing that any more. The intentional part, yes. The following and waiting part? No.
These days, I’m building what—and how—I’ve always wanted to build and it feels good. Even if it takes longer to fly than I want and has lots of twists and turns, I’m okay with that. Because intentionally creating what you actually want to create is worth it—for me, and for you.
A parting question:
Is there anything you’re doing in your dream business that you can’t wait to ditch once you’re successful? Maybe now’s a really good time to listen to your soul—and let it go.
P.S. Whether you’re still collecting a paycheck while you daydream or you’re already building your dream, MTYL Insiders (Toolkit + Lab) is here to help you simplify and take action—your way. Each month, we focus on a specific area to build your autonomy and hear your own voice more—so you can create and risk with intention.
The first resource drops next Friday. Check out MTYL Insiders here. Paid subscribers (MTYL Insiders): Scroll down to register for the March MTYL Lab and get it on your calendar.
