Well gosh, thank you for brightening my day with your compliments! Thoughtful readers like who “get” what I’m doing here automatically become kindred Internet friends.
Emily, I love where your mind goes. Starting with McDonald’s and somehow landing on dogs shouldn’t work, but it does.
That idea that people don’t want to admit they like McDonald’s… and also don’t want to admit they might not like dogs? That hit. There’s so much social pressure wrapped up in both.
Now I’m wondering… where do cats fall in this honesty spectrum? 😄
All of a sudden I’m realizing I might be like the dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, who can connect everything back to to Greek. Mostly because I think it’s funny to talk about things it’s not cool to admit, I can connect nearly everything back to McDonald’s.
And cats! lol. I feel like they’re totally fair game to not like. (FWIW, I personally feel about the same way about them as I do about dogs).
What a riot and so relatable! I too love McDonald's. Their chicken nuggets are far superior to any other fast food chain out there. And, we (I) tried to convince ourselves that we could be a dog family four different times, also once during COVID. Turns out that my husband and I are dog people. Our kids? Not so much.
Mmmm…those chicken nuggets with BBQ sauce? Delicious. :) I am very glad to know I’m not the only one who’s tried unsuccessfully to be a dog household. Too funny in your case that it was the kids who were a no go.

Love your stories... so relatable and therefore funny and clever... you are my cup of tea 🍵:)

I knew I was on the right work team when I felt safe to shamelessly admit my life-long love of the Filet-O-Fish sandwich.
Also, losing "a footrace to a cold tortoise" made me laugh!
Your comments delight me. Glad to have made you laugh, and to have made it easier for others to admit their love of McDonald's delicacies?

Interesting… almost everything, right?
Take cats—they’re the Filet-O-Fish of the animal kingdom. They’re an acquired taste that couldn't care less whether you like them or not. 😉
Talk about vulnerable, revealing any reticence about dogs!
I was nervous about a precipitous decline in subscribers, but not yet.
